HOCD is characterized by excessive fear of becoming or being homosexual, and it often experiences intrusive, unwanted mental images of homosexual behavior. The excessive, uncontrolled thoughts and doubts are very distressing and lead to compulsions in the form of checking.

HOCD,Homosexual OCD or hyposexual orientation disorder, is a condition in which an individual, straight or gay, obsessively doubts their sexual orientation. The most effective treatment for this and all types of OCD is cognitive behavioral therapy, with a focus on ERP.

ERP is considered the gold standard treatment for all types of OCD and has consistently been shown to be incredibly effective in helping those with OCD reclaim a sense of freedom over their lives.

Magical thinking OCD is a subtype characterized by ongoing intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors around superstitions or magical thinking to prevent negative experiences or harm to oneself or others.

Magical thinking can be treated with CBT, specifically with treatment approaches called ERP and mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy. Mindful-based CBT teaches patients that everyone experiences intrusive thoughts.

Everyone double checks things, but in general, people with OCD can’t control their obsessive thoughts or compulsions, even when they recognise those thoughts or behaviors as excessive. The main reason that compulsion seems so hard to stop is that you have to repeat them so often that they have become very automatic habits that are easy to do without thinking.
