Malaysia has big plans for the future of medical tourism. The country hopes to earn 2.7 billion US dollars from people coming for medical care over the next five years.

In the first three months of 2025, more than 1.5 million people from other countries came to Malaysia for medical help. This was shared by the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) through a report in The Star.

Back in 2023, over one million international travelers visited Malaysia to get medical treatments. They brought in around 500 million US dollars, which was more than the country made before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the full numbers for 2024 are not out yet, MHTC said that the country made about 2.4 billion Malaysian Ringgit (around 505 million US dollars) from medical tourists that year.

For the last ten years, Malaysia has been a top place in Asia for health travel. Most visitors come from nearby Indonesia, making up about 70–80% of all international patients.

Malaysia stands out because its healthcare is good but not too expensive. This makes it a popular place for people looking for affordable medical care.

In 2024, Malaysia was also chosen as the “most loved country in Asia” in a survey by the finance site Insider Monkey, as shared by VnExpress International.
