Both clubs have poolside bars for adult beverages, and casual restaurants by the pools. They are open seasonally.

Membership is required, but many house rentals come with temporary memberships during the summer. Supervised recreational programs for kids and adults are also available.

Location

Located at the tip of the southernmost of North Carolina’s cape islands and residing at the convergence of the Cape Fear River and Atlantic Gulf Stream, Bald Head Island pools is a natural wonder. Its shoreline is punctuated by a series of sand bars that emerge and retreat into the sea. It is a subtropical habitat for nearly 200 bird species, dolphins, loggerhead turtles and an array of other sea life.

The Club’s incredible aquatics complex features a heated 25-meter adults-only lap pool, a zero-entry family pool and a waterslide. It also has plenty of poolside seating in both shaded and sunny areas, a covered poolside deli affectionately known as the “Peli”, and a full-service snack bar. The Club also offers a variety of water activities for all ages, including adult water aerobics and water Zumba.

All members, guests and temporary members of the Bald Head Island Club are invited to enjoy the Shoals Club pools. The club's expansive pool overlooks a lagoon, where you can often spot herons, ospreys and other wildlife.

Please be aware that the beaches on Bald Head Island are subject to rip currents, so it is important to know how to swim safely in these conditions. If you or someone in your party becomes caught in a rip current, it is important to call 911 as soon as possible to get emergency personnel on the way. In addition, it is critical to always have a flotation device on hand, even when swimming in shallow water.

Golf

A fully stocked pro shop helps keep players well-outfitted and a dedicated golf staff offers lessons, clinics and other programs for all ages and skill levels.

Tennis

Four courts are available with all brand new Classic Cushion surfaces. Lessons and clinics are offered for all ages throughout the summer.

Hours

If you see someone in the water in trouble, call 911. This is the only way to get rescue personnel on their way. Life rings stationed on poles along the beach strand can also be used to assist in these situations. If you are a good swimmer and willing to assist, use your own personal flotation device (PFD). Never enter the water to conduct a rescue unless you have a PFD.

You can also play a round of croquet, a favorite pastime on this quaint little island. You can even get some instruction from the pros. If you prefer to just sit back and take it all in, you can stroll along the secluded and quiet beaches. You’ll be able to see a lot of hermit crabs, watch the birds and during turtle nesting season, you can often watch baby sea turtles make their way to the beach.
